Understanding Candle Fragrance Load (Specific Gravity)
Wax and fragrance oil have different densities. Our formula uses a 0.86 specific gravity for soy wax to ensure your scent-to-wax ratio is chemically stable and safe for burning.
Candle FAQs
How do I calculate how much wax I need for my container?
Water volume does not equal wax weight. Multiply your container's fluid ounce volume by 0.86 (the specific gravity of soy wax) to find the exact weight of wax required. This prevents overfilling or wasted material.
What is a safe fragrance load for soy candles?
Most soy waxes can hold between 6% and 10% fragrance oil by weight. Exceeding this limit can cause oil to seep out of the wax ('sweating') or create a fire hazard. Always verify the maximum load with your wax manufacturer.
